A Microsoft research team has created a prototype device that enables hand to control any device in their home using intuitive hand gestures.  Digits is a wearable device mounted on the wrist that incorporates an infrared camera and an x-IMU.  Digits connects to a computer via USB where signal processing algorithms and kinematic models enable detailed analysis of the hand’s motion.  More information is available on Microsoft’s news article on the project and detailed technical information available in a technical paper presented at UIST 2012.  This exciting prototype has also attracted allot of attention of the media with plenty of articles appearing on-line, including articles by the BBC and CNET.
